On-Model Photography and Video: 78 Looks in One Day for Fame

Three models in continuous rotation, two sets running side by side, and every raw file back with the brand the next day.

Seventy-eight looks is a lot for one shoot day. Add video to the same day and most studios will tell you to book two.

Fame sent us 105 pieces to shoot on model — photography for their product pages and video for social and the site — and the whole thing went through the studio in a single day. That’s not a matter of working faster. It’s a matter of the shoot being fully planned before anyone walked in, of running two sets at once so nothing ever waits, and of a shot list built around what the brand actually needed.

What the brand needed

Fame is a women’s fashion label working in tailored shirting, knitwear, prints and long silhouettes. The collection needed both formats: clean on-model stills for every product page, and video from the same looks for social and the site.

They’re out of state, so everything came to us — the samples, the references, and the production. What they kept was the decisions.

One frame per look, by design

The shot list was deliberately narrow: one front-view photograph of each look. A few pieces got an extra side view, and 10 to 15 items got a detail frame where a trim, a closure or a fabric needed its own shot. That was all.

It was a decision, not a compromise. Fame already had flat lay images showing the back, the construction and the fabric of every piece. What they were missing was one thing — how each look reads on a body — so that’s what the day was built around.

Front, back, side and detail for all 105 items would have been a two-day shoot. Front only, with video alongside it, fit into one.

Deciding what not to shoot is a real part of planning a shoot day, and it’s usually the difference between one day of studio, crew and models and two.

One front frame per look — same set, same light, same crop, from the first look of the day to the last.

Everything decided before the shoot day

A day this dense is won in the planning. Before the shoot, Fame sent lighting references, posing references and video references, so the look was agreed rather than discovered on the day. Around that, we ran the production:

  • Model casting to the brand’s brief, through agencies and freelance talent, with Fame approving the final three
  • Makeup artists sourced, quoted and booked once the brand had approved the artist and the cost
  • The schedule and the shot list — what gets shot when, in which order, on which set
  • Catering for the crew and the models
  • The sets, built and lit in advance so the first look could start on time

By the morning of the shoot there was nothing left to decide except how each piece should sit on the model.

Shipped ahead, steamed, organised by look

The samples arrived at the studio well before the shoot date. Every piece was checked in, steamed and grouped — not by category, but by look, in the order the shot list would call for them.

That’s the unglamorous part that makes the day possible. When a model comes off the video set, the next look is already assembled on a rail with its own shoes and accessories, ready to step into.

Two sets, one look

We ran two sets side by side: one for stills, one for video, with a photographer on one and a videographer on the other.

Photography and video want different light — video needs continuous sources, stills are lit for the frame — so the sets ran two separate lighting systems. The work was in making them match. Same background, same colour temperature, same quality and direction of light, so a still on the product page and a clip on Instagram read as one shoot rather than two.

That matching is the whole argument for shooting both in one session. Booked separately, on different days with different crews, they almost never line up.

How 78 looks fit into one day

Three models, moving in a continuous rotation:

Model AChangingBeing dressed for her next look, with a stylist and the rail already assembled.
Model BPhoto setFront frame for the look, shot to the lighting reference agreed before the day.
Model CVideo setThe same look filmed on the matched set, then back to changing.

Each model moves changing → photo → video → changing. No set is ever empty, and the crew never waits for a garment to be steamed or a model to be ready.

Run that way — with one frame per look and the shot list agreed in advance — 78 looks is a full but comfortable day rather than a scramble, and the last look of the day is lit and styled exactly like the first.

Prints and texture — colour matched to the garment, pattern kept true across the collection.

Two stylists on set, and the client approving as it happened

Two dedicated stylists worked the floor with the three models: dressing each look, fixing the fit on the model, tucking, pinning, adjusting a sleeve or a hem between frames. On a moving shoot, that’s what keeps the clothes looking like the brand intended rather than like samples on a hanger.

Fame’s team was on set for the day. Every look was approved in front of the camera — how the pieces were put together, which shoe, how the belt sat — so there were no surprises in the gallery afterwards.

Brands that can’t travel get the same view. We run a live review link through Capture One Live: every frame appears as it’s captured, on a laptop or a phone, from anywhere — and anyone you share the link with can comment on images while the shoot is still running.

The photographer, videographer, stylists and creative director are all in-house, and the whole day happened in our own studio.

Detail frames for the 10–15 pieces where a trim or closure needed its own shot, and a styled look built on set with the client watching.

Files can also be named to a platform or SKU specification. Fame didn’t need that on this order, but it’s there.

Common questions about on-model photo and video shoots

How many looks can you shoot in a day?

It depends on how many angles you need, more than on how many pieces you send. One front view per look, with a shot list agreed in advance and three models in rotation: 78 looks in a day, with video running alongside. Front, back, side and detail on every piece roughly doubles it — the same collection would have been a two-day shoot.

Can you shoot photo and video in the same session?

Yes, and it’s usually better. We run two sets at once with separate lighting systems for stills and video, matched on background, colour and direction, so the two sets of files look like one shoot. Video can also be booked on its own, without stills.

Do you cast the models?

Yes. We cast to your brief through agencies and freelance talent, send options for your approval, and book the makeup artist once you’ve approved the artist and the cost. Schedule, shot list and catering are handled the same way.

How fast do we get files?

All raw photos and video go to a preview gallery within 24 hours of the shoot. Once you’ve selected the images you want retouched, final files come back in 3–5 business days, web-ready or print-ready.

Do we need to be there?

You’re welcome on set, and most brands shooting on model come. If you can’t travel, we send a live review link, run through Capture One Live: every frame appears as it’s shot, on a computer or a phone, and anyone you share the link with can comment while the shoot is still running.

If you’re planning an on-model shoot

Send the collection, the references and the deadline. We’ll help you decide how many angles you actually need, then cast, schedule, style and shoot it — stills, video, or both in the same day — and have raw files back with you the next day.
